The property is the company's and northern Germany's first logistics property with a complete timber structure. Thanks to the timber construction method, up to 14 per cent of the CO2 emissions required for the building were saved compared to conventional construction methods.

In line with SEGRO's strategy for low-carbon growth, the logistics property has a number of other sustainability features. For example, Scan Global will use the green electricity generated by the PV systems on the roof directly itself. The PV system will have a total capacity of 1.96 MW peak. A sustainable heat pump system will be used to heat the hall and office areas. Overall, SEGRO is aiming for the DGNB Platinum and DGNB Climate Positive sustainability certificates for the site. SEGRO involved the Neu Wulmstorf Climate Forum in the planning of the green spaces and is also installing insect hotels and nesting boxes for native birds to promote biodiversity on site.

Julian Kux, Director Logistics Germany at SEGRO, said:

"Having previously owned the site to a large local labour provider, which unfortunately went bankrupt, we are proud to have found a local company in ETS Scan Global that also shares our sustainability values. SEGRO has invested heavily in the brownfield site, creating high-quality, modern and sustainable logistics space."

Sven Schoon, Managing Director at Scan Global Logistics GmbH, said:

"As a global logistics service provider specialising in air and sea freight, we are aware of the responsibility we bear in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. That is why we are focusing on sustainable solutions to drive forward the decarbonisation of supply chains - quickly and on a large scale. The SEGRO Logistics Centre Hamburg Neu Wulmstorf fulfils precisely this requirement: the combination of timber construction, green electricity supply from a powerful photovoltaic system and heat pump technology convinces us as a climate-friendly alternative to conventional logistics properties.

We also made a conscious decision in favour of this location: We have been active in logistics in Neu Wulmstorf for over ten years and feel closely connected to the region. The future connection to the A26 motorway will make access to the Port of Hamburg even more efficient - a clear logistical advantage for our sea freight activities."

The customer Scan Global was brokered by the logistics broker REALOGIS Immobilien Hamburg.
