DHL has taken a lease of a new 51,474 sq ft facility which helps enable the company to grow and enhance its services in East London. The scheme incorporates several sustainability features which exceed the development agreement with the GLA and the requirements in the London Plan. These include an EPC A+ (carbon neutral) rating through photovoltaic cells which will provide solar energy for DHL to power its electric vehicle fleet and a range of sensors within the building which will help manage utilisation and the environmental, energy and plant performance.

Alan Holland, Business Unit Director for Greater London, SEGRO, said:

“SEGRO Park Newham is the latest of 22 locations across Europe at which we’ve developed warehousing for DHL, making the company one of our largest customers. The new facility provides a contemporary, sustainable and flexible facility on a perfectly-located site which in turn will help enable DHL to enhance its last mile service in East London. It is a great demonstration of the value we can achieve together.”

SEGRO Park Newham is being delivered as part of the East Plus initiative, the partnership between SEGRO and the Greater London Authority (GLA), which is redeveloping 86 acres of brownfield land across Newham, Barking & Dagenham and Havering, delivering 1.4 million sq ft of modern industrial space during the 15-year partnership.

In total DHL leases 22 units totalling 2.3m sq ft from SEGRO across Europe, 12 of which are in the UK.

About East Plus

  • In October 2015, SEGRO was selected as GLA’s preferred partner to deliver East Plus, due to its unrivalled track record in modernising and regenerating industrial space.
  • Part of the then-Mayor’s vision for East London, East Plus is the redevelopment of 86 acres of brownfield land across Newham, Barking & Dagenham and Havering, set to deliver 1.4 million sq ft of modern industrial space over the next 10 years, acting as a catalyst for the wider regeneration of London Riverside.
  • As part of a joint vision for East London, this wave of development supports local trade and provides opportunities for inward investment, whilst keeping East London’s industrial heritage alive. The partnership will be one of the largest to create employment space on public land in London.
