The charity will utilise the £2,000 funding to deliver ‘HITZ’, an education and employability programme which enables people in Slough aged between 14 – 24 years not in education or employment to undertake coaching qualifications in a range of sports.

The SEGRO Community Award, which attracted 18 entries in 2019, offers charities and community groups the opportunity to win £2,000 funding to deliver initiatives focused on improving the skills and employability of young people and disadvantaged groups. The award is administered by SEGRO in partnership with Slough Business Community Partnership (SBCP).

Gareth Osborn, Business Unit Director, Thames Valley, at SEGRO said:

“Sport is a tried and tested way of bringing people together, as well as providing a positive focus and the means to develop new skills and capabilities. London Irish Foundation’s HITZ programme is a great initiative to use rugby and coaching to make a real positive difference to people’s lives in the Slough Community. Congratulations to everyone involved.”

The winner in 2018 was The Real Experience, which has been working hard over the last year to train over 190 members of the community to gain hospitality, barista or food safety qualifications. In 2017, Learning To Work won, successfully delivering a project to help seventeen Year 12 students improve their skills through volunteering to better prepare them for their future education or employment opportunities.
