The Gateway to Skills programme provides an introduction and awareness to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects at local schools in Havering, Newham, Dagenham and Barking – the boroughs that are part of SEGRO’s East Plus scheme. The additional further funding will benefit 500 secondary school students who will attend ‘taster days’ at CEME to bring to life STEM in a fun and engaging way.

Neil Impiazzi, Partnership Development Director, SEGRO, said:

“Our East Plus partnership with the Mayor of London is bringing to life 86 acres of derelict and unused industrial land across Newham, Havering, Barking & Dagenham, which is helping to create jobs and attract new investment to the area.

In addition to delivering modern industrial space, we work hard to ensure our presence benefits the local community. Supporting young people to develop their employability skills and improve their skills and education is important to us and our customers, which is why we’re delighted to support CEME for another academic year.

1000 secondary school children have already been through the Gateway to Skills programme and we look forwarding to inspiring a further 500 into STEM careers.”

Bill Williams, CEO of CEME, said:

“CEME is delighted to working with SEGRO for another year. The purpose of the Gateway to Skills initiative is to engage young people in design and technology and it has proven very successful over the last two years. With the sponsorship from SEGRO, we will be able to continue to offer this opportunity to a further 500 young people from Havering, Barking, Dagenham and Newham over the next year. We would like to thank SEGRO for its continued support on behalf of all schools, parents and students in the region for enabling young people to better understand what a career might look like in manufacturing, engineering and technology.”
