Johan de Wijs, WSP Haarlemmermeer and Regional Work Center Greater Amsterdam

In the In the picture section you will meet the people who create and are the CIP. Customers, partners, SEGRO employees, local residents; everyone who is involved in some way. This time: Johan de Wijs from Employer Service Point (WSP) Haarlemmermeer and Regional Work Center Greater Amsterdam (RWC).

Johan de Wijs is responsible for employer contacts at WSP Haarlemmermeer. “I am in contact with employers who can or want to do something for people who are at a distance from the labor market. That is also the point where SEGRO and we at WSP found each other. I was approached by SEGRO to see if and how we can contribute together to the local labor market, specifically for that target group. Of course we can only say yes to that.”

Reduce the distance together
Johan soon saw a collaboration and advantages in a connection with the CIP. “SEGRO's CIP goals align with those of WSP; we want to help people who are at a distance from the labor market on their way to work and a better future. Of course, there is a lot involved, so I knew: we had to join the Greater Amsterdam Regional Work Center (RWC) in this. This network organization can take us further. After all, networks are extremely important to achieve more and to make a difference together.”

Together with Jurgen Doedel from RWC, Johan was already involved in the organization of the Bedrijven in Zicht Open Days [ see further in this newsletter, ed. ]. A wonderful opportunity to explore and shape the first CIP collaboration. “We were looking for companies in the region that wanted to open their doors during the week of Bedrijven in Zicht so that interested parties could visit. SEGRO facilitated transportation so that a group could visit several companies at SPAA in one day. A wonderful way to remove the barrier for people who are somewhat further away from the labor market.”

Connecting and deploying networks
“SEGRO feels the need to give something back to the residents of Haarlemmermeer, especially for the group that is having a more difficult time. That is what we share!” says Johan. “From now on, we will continuously look at whether there are more initiatives that we can work on together. WSP, RWC and SEGRO each have large networks. We can connect them; This creates an even larger network full of knowledge, opportunities and possibilities for people who may not be able to make progress on their own. That's what we do it for.”

Companies in Sight SPAA Open Day

SEGRO Park Amsterdam Airport. Tuesday November 7. A day with even more exercise than normal. Understandable, because it is the Bedrijven in Zicht SPAA Open Day. Our customers opened their doors to anyone who is looking for a job or internship or is just curious.

We organized an Open Day tour together with DHL Express, A2 Global Electronics and Kite Pharma. Three stops, three 'looks into the kitchen'. SEGRO provided a bus to transport interested parties to the three locations. Here they were given guided tours and presentations, and perhaps a view of a new step in their lives.

The latter is what we do it for: contributing together to our local environment; to the lives of residents of the Haarlemmermeer. It was wonderful that the turnout for the open day was so great. The bus was full of interested people, our Marco guided the tour with verve, and the lunch offered was also appreciated! We look forward to the next edition.

We are looking for locations for the course days. Rooms must be suitable for 6 participants, a teacher, a resuscitation manikin, table and chairs. Would you like to make a space available? Awesome! Tell our Sinead at sinead.hitchcock@segro.com

CIP 2023 to 2025

Big plans, great goals

Contribute together to the local SPAA community. It is the core of our Community Investment Plan. But what does that mean? At SEGRO we have a number of very concrete goals in mind.

Our goals did not come out of thin air. They are based on our experiences and meetings with customers, partners, municipalities and educational organizations. If we join forces, we dare to set the following goals before the end of 2025:

  • 225 people at a distance from the labor market participate in our job market program. Our program gives clients the opportunity to showcase their company and job opportunities to potential employees.

  • 100 young people are introduced to the real professional world by inviting them to visit our customers and/or suppliers in the construction sector. Schools and employment services are invited to visit the job fair with their students, trainees and clients to inspire them.

  • 75% of all SPAA customers participate and commit to the CIP program. Connecting to the CIP means contributing – thinking along and participating – in a way that suits the organization in question.

  • Support for 12 sports activities for children and other groups for whom sports are less obvious due to social, physical or financial limitations. We achieve this together through volunteer work and the supply of materials.
  • At least 60 residents of Haarlemmermeer are training with a CPR course to make the local environment 'heart safer'.
